Puglia: Alberobello & Polignano

Updated: Apr 26

Our recent posting "Puglia: the new Tuscany" piqued interest so we decided to elaborate on some of the most striking places to visit for when you do decide to bring your incentive group to the region. In the interest of time, we can only touch the surface but know we’re here for you when you need our expertise.

If you select to stay at the Borgo Egnazio, your guests can be in Alberobello within 35 minutes. That means you can start the day a little later, allowing your guests have a leisurely breakfast. While it's definitely worth the visit (it's not a UNESCO site for nothing!), we suggest spending an hour and half. It’s enough time to enjoy the unique architecture (Trullo houses) and roam the touristy shops that line Rione Monti, before gathering everyone in a local caffé on Largo Martellotta for an espresso or foamy cappuccino before moving onto your next stop. Score bonus points and add an extra 20-30 minutes if you visit Thursday when guests can experience the farmer's market.

Alberobello is easily pairable with Polignano a Mare for a good, but not-too-long “half day with lunch." Polignano is a quaint seaside village that exemplifies what Puglia is known for; white-washed buildings, quiet alleyways, and, well in this particular case the famous Domenico Modugno. He was the embodiment of the Italian cool and the Dulce Vida, and writer of Volare.

Although there is a statue erected of Domenico in a very prominent place, here the main attraction is the Lana Monachile; a rocky but very unique and picturesque cove where you can bathe in the Adriatic while watching the cliff jumpers hurtle themselves into the beautiful blue. It's one of that must-do and check it off the list while visiting the region.

Tell guests not to let the lines of people out the door at Pescaria deter them from enjoying lunch there. Consider a superlicious fried octopus burger or tuna tartare sandwich laced with burrata and pesto, both exquisite and will fill any appetite!

If you have the opportunity (and budget) to schedule an off-site dinner, then definitely book your tables at the spectacular cliffside Ristorante Grotta Palazzese. This venue offers a jaw-dropping view of the Adriatic Sea and food that provides one of a fabulous culinary experience that will leave attendees talking about for years.
