Atelier Estudio: Playa Mujeres

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

A recent visit to the developing area of Playa Mujeres revealed a great new addition to the luxury hotel scene. I had never heard of the name before, and found out that two partners sold some lower budget resorts to combine efforts into an upscale one. And from what I saw in my limited time there, they accomplished what they set out to do.

The Atelier Studio is in a category of its own, at least for now. The property consists of two buildings; Estudio ("studio" in English) designed for families and Atelier ("workshop") is adults-only. I only visited the latter because of the business I'm in.

From the moment you enter the Atelier lobby you see luxury and feel pampered. The all-suite property offers nicely sized and very unhotel like guest rooms, and that's a good thing. The spa is large, the restaurants offer the usual variety but are nicely done, and the conference center has a fantastic high-ceiling ballroom and five breakouts with lots of daylight. There is also a great theater venue for nightly shows which then becomes a nightclub.

The pool area is large and the pool has transparent walls. Their beach is a great feature for during the day, and practical for banquets at night. The exclusive section Inspira gives a limited number of paying guests access to a rooftop pool with bar during the day, but all resort guests can benefit from the rooftop space with steakhouse starting from 7pm. A great Greg Norman-designed 18 hole golf course runs adjacent, and the views of Isla Mujeres make a nice change for the area. It's a good pick, and I wanted to share with my colleagues so you can feel confident when proposing properties in the Costa Mujeres area.
